Quercus cerris, the Turkey or Austrian oak, is an oak native to south-eastern Europe and Asia Minor. It is characterised by shoot buds surrounded by soft bristles, bristle-tipped leaf lobes. Turkey Oak is also wild grained making turning trickier and the finished piece more visually interesting. Turning the slab to a blank caused several bandsaw jams due to the wild graining and the significant warping as the boards had air dried.
