A substantial centrepiece bowl of Horam, East Sussex, sourced spalted Sycamore. The turned bowl was then blowtorched to create the rich patina of the piece and help self seal the wood by bringing the natural oils to the surface, before finishing with food safe mineral oil and beeswax balm while still warm. We opted to use a creme brûlée blowtorch in order to minimise cracking and movement associated with the higher temperature and faster, more localised, moisture loss of a plumber's blowtorch.
